New house, Lislarry, Ireland

Located on a spectacular coastal site, the scheme is carefully scaled and, utilising a palette of natural materials, consciously acknowledges the precedent of the local vernacular. It divides into two splayed wings, the first containing the principal living spaces and the second providing privacy to a suite of bedrooms. The scheme's geometry carefully frames a series of dramatic views to Benbulben and Inishmurray and also supports a passive solar strategy that, in combination with high levels of insulation and air-tightness, substantially reduces the building's heating requirement. The scheme's environmental sustainability is also enhanced by the use of rainwater harvesting and roof-top solar array for passive water heating.
